Upon your arrival into Havana, you immediately are introduced to two of our longtime and exceptional guides - Alexis Hernandez and Abel Contreras.
Well-traveled and so wise about world events and politics, they also have a wealth of knowledge about their home country...Cuba. They are experts in their field with a vast understanding of Cuban culture, the arts, history, sports, and of course cigars and rum! Both have their own unique sense of humor that is shared from the beginning to the end of your tour.
If you are looking for restaurant recommendations – they know the best and usually the owners too. If you are looking for a unique excursion in your free time – they will be sure it is arranged for you. If you are looking for dancing and music – they will point you the way (and possibly join you as well)! They go the extra mile each year for our group such as waking up early to be sure your breakfast is ready on race morning and then they are there to cheer you off to the start line.
Here's a little peek into their lives…
Alexis has worked in tourism for the past 20 years. He holds a degree in English Literature and History from Havana University. If Cuban and American history is your interest – Alexis is your guy. He is able to explain the intricate complexities of Cuba like no other. He has traveled throughout the United States and often works with Fortune 500 CEOS, YPO Gold and YPO International, politicians, diplomats, Hollywood celebrities, and intellectuals. Alexis is fluent in Spanish, English, and French.
Abel, born in Havana where he still resides, attended the foreign language school with degrees in English, French and Culture. Prior to becoming a guide in 1999, he worked as an English teacher and translator. He has traveled extensively throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe.
To say the least, they are remarkable guides and will have you leaving Cuba wanting to see and hear more about their beautiful country that remains such a mystery to so many.
