The marathon was very well organized and a nice route. City is beautiful and very easy to walk around. The Friday morning walking guide was well done and gave me a good sense of the city and what I wanted to go back and visit. Jen was a great with everyone and ensuring people were taken care of.
I greatly appreciated having access to what is a truly unique running experience. Given all of the hassles/headaches of past races and the 'politics' in being permitted to offer a marathon course there makes me that much more grateful to have been able to go. Also, of course, seeing what is such a beautiful part of the world and what is so unlike any other place I have traveled, was a highlight. Finally, I was very impressed with the Marathon Tours and One Oceans staff. Everyone worked tirelessly and was so professional--very impressive indeed!
I enjoyed having time to visit with others on the trip, listening to their stories and appreciate this event that brought us together from all parts of the world. The cocktail hour, city tour, breakfast run, and pasta feed were all so wonderful! Then meeting for cocktails after the marathon and sharing our stories was superb!
I'm usually a loner, but took part in the group activities and looked forward to seeing everyone after the race. It was inspiring, supportive, fun, and comfortable. We shared the experience but at the same time each had our own race and accomplishment. It was a perfect balance of planned activities and time to explore on my own. I wouldn't change any part of the plan.
Fantastic Hotel! Conrad St James VERY comfy bed, Awesome breakfast, and perfect location. Thom and Staff were hospitable and friendly as always. Brilliant trip. One of the best City Marathons in the World to run - iconic scenery, wonderful generous crowd, and fast course. Loved it.
I have never been so comfortable and relaxed leading up to my race, knowing that I would be transported to the marathon site. My experience has usually been scouting out the area , and getting there alone. Racing and running is difficult enough without having to be concerned with this problem.
The staff clearly knows the location and the race. I feel comfortable knowing that I am traveling with an organization that knows what they are doing. This trip was as enjoyable as the trips I have taken with Marathon Tours to Tokyo and Berlin.
Having local tours lined up ahead of time was fantastic. This includes the local tours for the whole group, as well as individual tours suggested and contact info given for pre-booking.
Perfect trip! Everyone was very knowledgeable and friendly, hotel location was perfect for both the marathon and walking around the city.
I felt safe and comfortable traveling alone. The hotel was high quality and the location was perfect. I enjoyed the city, the race, and the friendly people I met.
I finished the Six World Majors and now I am thinking about the Seven Continents but would like to look into other Marathon Tours sponsored trips. I like the way you all handle the accommodations and tour! Thank-you!
I didn't know anything about Marathon Tours and took a chance because I knew we wanted to run the Medoc. It was beyond my expectations.
I liked meeting people from all over the world with the same passion for running. The race itself - more challenging than I ever anticipated, but that made it so much more meaningful.
I hadn't realized from the Marathon Tours website how many activities were included in the package, nor that the hotel was so extremely close to the marathon start point. So the only recommendation I can give is maybe sell your package more strongly, because it was a great deal.
One of the true highlights of my running career. It was THE hardest race I have ever completed (you don't travel to Antarctica to run a flat road race) and I loved every minute of it. Thank you for this once in a lifetime opportunity.
The course and weather made the half marathon the hardest event ever, but we were exhilarated with the event. It was the race of a lifetime. Love it!
What can you do to change any of this? We are very fortunate to be able to run in Antarctica. I hope that no runner has anything negative to say about this course, transfers, spectator access, or anything about the race. The course, access, transferring, and everything about race day was excellent.
Loved the excursions and just to be in the presence of such pristine beauty! How many people actually get to see all of that? The days following the race I found myself waking up in the middle of the night just to look out the window and see what I was missing. The beauty was so amazing I am having a hard time even articulating it to anyone here. Thank you for making all of that possible.
Overall I thought the pre-trip information was very good. If you read it carefully most questions were answered. A number of things I heard people complaining about were mentioned in the travel information. I think you should mention that laundry can be done daily on the ship more prominently, I would have bought less clothing with me than I did if I had have known how efficient the service was. Also, I would put more emphasis on renting the wetskins on the ship. Mention that they are very warm as well as keeping you dry, and the fact that if you rent them you save space in your luggage plus if you don't already have the appropriate gear it will save you a lot of money. The likelihood of rain/sleet/snow at the marathon should also be mentioned more prominently. My clothing worked well, but I hadn't planned for rain when I chose my headgear and gloves. The toughness of the course can't be underemphasised.
