The 2024 date is not confirmed.
RACE DATE: July 29, 2023
START TIMES:
7:45 AM - Marathon and Half-Marathon
8:30 AM – 11K and 6K
COURSE: The Australian Outback Marathon, Half Marathon, 11km and 6km courses will be predominantly off-road. Enjoyed by both professional runners, club runners, casual runners and beginners, there are events for all running levels. In addition to its beauty, the course is relatively flat, with only a couple inclines and sand dunes. Most of the course is on unsealed roads, bush tracks and soft-sand trails, with a few small sand dunes and plenty of Australia’s famed “Red Earth” thrown in for good measure. The running surface will consist mainly of the famous "red earth" that can be found all over central Australia, and stunning views of Uluru (Ayres Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) are waiting for you around almost every corner.
DRINK STATIONS: Drinks will be stationed approximately every three kilometers throughout the Half-Marathon and the Marathon. There will also be three drinks station in the 11km fun run. There will be a drinks station for the 6km fun run/walk at approximately 4km. Each drink station will have bottled water and some will have electrolyte drinks as well.
PERSONAL REFRESHMENTS: Personal drinks can be left at the 9km, 15km, 27km and 33km drinks stations for Marathon runners and at the 9km and 15km drink stations for Half-Marathon runners. All personal drinks must be dropped at the race briefing between 4:00pm and 5:00pm on the Friday prior to the race. Your personal drinks MUST be clearly marked. Personal drinks will NOT be accepted on race day.
MEDICAL SUPPORT: There will be several medically trained personnel at the start/finish area as well as at some of the aid stations, just in case they are needed. There is also a medical center at the Ayers Rock Resort and the Australian Outback Marathon will have a helicopter on standby just in case it is required. It is highly recommended that ALL runners therefore have at the very least adequate medical insurance cover for the Australian Outback Marathon.
ENTRY FEE: All entry fees are included as part of your package. Entry deadline is May 12, 2023 for the event. NOTE: The custom-made t-shirts are generally a tighter fit. If you prefer a looser fitting t-shirt, please consider ordering a larger size than normal.
ELIGIBILITY: Marathon entrants must be over 18 years of age on race day. Half-Marathon entrants must be 15 years of age or older. The 11km and 6km runs are open to all ages.
TIME LIMIT: The marathon and half-marathon course are open for eight (8) hours. The 11km runners should finish within three (3) hours and the 6km runners within 1.5 hours.
NUMBER PICKUP: Your race packets will be available on your arrival at the resort upon check-in and will include: race number, event t-shirt, and entry bands for your tours (if applicable) and the pre-race pasta dinner.
TEMPERATURE: The average daytime temperature in July is 21 degrees Celsius (70 degrees Fahrenheit) whilst the night-time temperature is only 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit). This means that on race day the temperature will be chilly just before and just after dawn but will be perfect once you are running. The humidity levels are usually less than 10%. NOTE: the area can be quite cold in the evenings so be sure to bring something warm.
AWARDS: All finishers will receive a specially created commemorative medal, t-shirt (for those booked before May 12, 2023), and a finishers certificate (available online). NOTE: The custom-made t-shirts are generally a tighter fit. If you prefer a looser fitting t-shirt, please consider ordering a larger size than normal.
DIFFICULTY: Moderate to difficult. The course can be quite “sandy” depending on the weather conditions in the previous months.
